Expanding Langley United¦s soccer world

Welcome back to all Langley United members who¦ve now returned to soccer after an enjoyable summer break used to recharge your batteries. While LUYSA soccer is available pretty well year-round, we¦re also expanding in other ways. For example, we¦re pleased to welcome more than 170 girls into our first-ever grassroots girls program and we look to expand our girls program and academy rapidly in years to come. Please take a moment to welcome all girls and their parents into the club.

We also took the opportunity this summer to start a U21 men¦s team to compete in the top-level Vancouver Metro League beginning in September. This will give young men in who graduate from U18 soccer an opportunity to play high-level soccer at home. It¦s also a great step forward for our objective of meeting the Canadian Soccer Association¦s Club Charter program of offering (cradle to grave÷ soccer.

On the cradle side, we also opened our grassroots to the younger U5 boys and girls, a program that has been very well received by parents looking for structured, well-organized programs to introduce their young children gently to sports and team activities. Plus, these kids are so cute!

Early September saw the official opening of the third artificial turf field at , from which LUYSA made important contributions. We are grateful to have this new soccer pitch at our disposal, and look forward to working with the TOL in providing more new field opportunities down the road.

Over the last year, the Board of Directors has worked with the TOL to come up with a plan to build a Club House at .  I am happy to tell you that during the summer the TOL gave funding approval for LUYSA to start building our new Club House!  The cost of the project is just short of $1 million dollars, with LUYSA¦s contribution at approximately $360K.  The Board is hard at work reaching out to our community for help funding the project.  An initial deposit has been made and if all continues to go well, ground will be broken in the spring, and with any luck, our LUYSA Club House will be open late 2012.

All in all, it¦s been a great (off-season÷ in the summer as efforts continued to build the club up on your behalf. A special welcome back to all members and we wish you a happy and fun season of soccer.

Yours in soccer,

Betty Boucas
