Canada’s women’s national team lost their first match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007 tonight, falling 1:2 to group-seed Norway. The Canucks were the better team in the first half and had a 1-0 lead at the break, but the Norwegians came back to win the match.
"It was a case of a little stronger Norway team that became more and more into the game," said assistant coach Ian Bridge, who held head coaching duties for this match during Even Pellerud’s suspension. "Ultimately, we didn’t defend the box as well as we should have. Both of the goals were similar in that they were close."
